Happy Happy Birthday Madiba!!

Don't forget to celebrate with the rest of the world tomorrow, when our former president, Nelson Mandela, will be celebrating his 91st birthday! In dedication to his humanitarian efforts and wonderful inspirational life, South Africa has declared the 18 July Madiba Day.

"We are humbled by the call for an annual Mandela Day in our honour. Our struggle for freedom and justice was a collective effort. Mandela Day is no different," said Mandela in a video message recorded for Mandela Day on Saturday.*

"It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it."*

Unfortunately the 18th won't be a holiday, which i personally think it should be, its meant to be a day devoted to service.

"It is our hope that people will dedicate their time and effort to improve the conditions within their own communities. We thank you for participating in Mandela Day," he said.*

Hey and for all you Capetonians out there wanting to celebration Madiba's birthday, why not get yourself over to Mandela Rhodes Place and be apart of the Ubuntu Festival.

Go check out this great slide show of Mandela and send him your birthday wishes and you could be in line to win a Nelson Mandela media center DVD thanks to New24.com.

“O, Oysters, come and walk with us!”

Whenever anyone mentions oysters I always seem to think of Lewis Carroll's character, the Walrus, from his famous story of Alice in Wonderland. How he coaxed them out of the sea singing a tune and then the Carpenter and himself ate the poor little things with gusto. Well I wasn't feeling sorry for the little things the other night, when my brother walked in the door with three dozen oysters which were picked, opened and put on ice that morning, all ready for us to indulge. He went up to the Knysna Oyster Festival, and as a tradition, just had to bring some home for us. Any they were delicious!!

If you're ever visiting Knysna of just passing through, you have to do yourself a favour and visit the Knysna Oyster Company, especially if you enjoy oysters. You can pick fresh water or cultivated oysters in various sizes and prices. Even if you don't enjoy them, get yourself a bottle of champers and enjoy the beautiful scenery and atmosphere!

2010 Cape Town transport system

I received this video today from news24.com on twitter and I think, if constructed the way it is on the video, is going to be fantastic for Capetonians and its tourists. We've all heard about the Gautrain being contructed in Gauteng, but this is Cape Town's solution to some of our public transport problems with the 2010 in our midst.

While watching it I immediately started thinking about how the local taxi/minibus drivers might like this idea, as this system will provide transport for about 75% of Cape Town's population. I carried on listening and heard some of the solutions: they are going to offer shares in the company, give preference in jobs, and or provide compensation...hmmm. Do you really think that this is going to work? I somehow don't think that a taxi/minibus driver is going to give up his business to go and work for the local government. I think this is just going to call for more striking, which South Africa has seen enough of in the past few weeks.

Don't get me wrong I think this is a brilliant idea, and i would definitely take full advantage of using it. After all, if it gets people to leave their cars at home it would create a hell of a lot less traffic and less car omissions. And on the plus side, it seems pretty affordable. Well don't dwell on my opinions, watch the video for yourself and decide what you think!

Hello and Welcome

Hey guys

I've been tweeting, facebooking and writing on all other blogs/sites about my thoughts, opinions and my goings on and I've now finally decided to start my own. Don't get me wrong I did try a blog a few years back, but I just didn't seem to have the time and motivation to keep it up to date. So lets hope this one lasts for a good few years, maybe more. I hope I will keep you entertained and amused! Lekker reading!!
